04 Dec The Conscious Gift Giving Trend
I absolutely love this time of year. Even though the weather is getting much colder, I look forward to seeing Christmas trees and lights. It’s even more fun now that I have kids and can see the excitement and wonder on their faces. Once the Thanksgiving dishes are done and the leftovers are put in the fridge I start thinking about gift giving. My Instagram typically blows up this time of year with gift giving guides. While I occasionally look at these for ideas, I often find that they are full of random toys that we already have or don’t need.
This year I’m taking a different approach to gift giving. I’ve been trying to teach my kids, who are 3 and 1, about giving back to those who are in need. While I realize they can’t fully grasp what this means, it doesn’t hurt to start trying to instill these traits in them at a young age. Just last month we spent a morning packing up shoebox gifts for kids who are in need around the world. We had a great time and I hope the kids were able to get a glimpse of what it means to help others who are less fortunate.
Conscious gift giving has become a trend that I fully endorse and I’m excited to share more about it with you! What is conscious gift giving? Conscious gift giving is a trend toward purchasing gifts that are meaningful. Gift givers who are following the conscious gift giving trend are specifically looking for gifts that will be well loved, gifts that will last, and gifts that are made in ways that reflect their values. For many, it’s important to support companies that are ethical in the way they produce their products and treat their workers. Conscious gift givers are also looking for gift that will do good in the world. I love supporting companies that give to causes that I support and believe in.
There are more and more companies who fit the criteria of conscious gift givers and I’m excited to share two of my favorites with you!
Earlier this year I was introduced to cuddle+kind and I highly encourage you to check them out if you’re looking for a great gift for your little one this holiday season! The hand-knit dolls are made by women artisans in Peru and there are so many adorable dolls to choose from. The dolls are ethically produced, as the women artisans are provided with a sustainable, fair-trade income. Currently, cuddle+kind has a collection of 22 dolls that are made from natural, premium cotton, which makes them very soft and cuddly. I love giving back and think it’s awesome that for every doll purchased cuddle+kind provides 10 meals to children in need around the world! How cool is that?! In just two years cuddle+kind has donated 1,527, 878 meals!
This Christmas season my family is participating in the conscious gift giving trend! My kids both have a cuddle+kind doll, which they absolutely adore! As a matter of fact, we think the dolls are so great that we jumped at the opportunity to give one to their baby cousin as an early Christmas gift. Stella the polar bear arrived this past week and she is loving her new home here in Oregon!
I hope you’ll consider joining the conscious gift giving trend this year. If you’re looking for a meaningful gift for a special little one in your life I encourage you to purchase a cuddle+kind doll!
Recently I was introduced to MatchBack, which is a giving brand that I hope you’ll think is as great as I do! I love their concept and am always looking for ways to support companies that give back. The heart of their mission focuses on promoting self confidence of teens-in-need through their “Buy One, We Give One” model. Each month they collaborate with a new organization to design a unique hat + shirt bundle. For every bundle purchased they donate a bundle to an underprivileged teen. How cool is that?! MatchBack currently has developed a number of Teen-In-Need Network Partnerships. To date, MatchBack has matched back over 678,000 bundles!
I recently received the Sevenly bundle and I can’t begin to tell you how awesome it is! The quality of the items in the bundle is outstanding! I’ve received numerous compliments on the tee and I’m not kidding when I say that it’s one of the softest shirts I have. I love it!
If you’re interested in supporting the mission of MatchBack, you can subscribe to receive a shirt + hat bundle for $37 per month. Each month you’ll receive the latest bundle and you can keep it for yourself or gift it to a friend. You’ll also receive MatchBack’s Signature “Do Good” Bundle with your first bundle purchase and will receive one each year as an anniversary gift. If you’re on the fence about subscribing and want to check out their products you can opt to try out their one time buy option for $55. As a subscriber, you’re able to pause your subscription if you don’t want to receive the upcoming month’s bundle. Your subscription will then resume the next month as scheduled. If you’re excited to find out the upcoming designs you can check out their “Preview” page where designs are revealed on the 25th of the month.
I highly recommend checking this out as an option for your gift giving this holiday season!
